Key Languages is expanding. We not only have language students in our location, but we are also sending language instructors to our young students’ homes for the after school program and to companies to help their employees improve their language skills.

Key Languages is now offering to its students a great tool to stay connected and continue learning. Students who are traveling can use up to 10 of their lessons via internet. Although we enjoy having them here, we can adapt to their lifestyle.

Language in the News

Catch the Zeitgeist – learn German. German and English are both Germanic languages. They share many word origins and characteristics. That makes German a good choice for every English-speaking Mensch, whether you are a Kindergartner, a Student or just one of the Familie. The Miami Herald 06/07/06 (subscription required)

So English is taking over the world. So what. With interest in English around the world growing stronger, there are some linguists and others who say: why fight it? Instead, the argument goes, English, particularly the simpler form of the language used by most nonnative speakers, should be embraced. The New York Times 08/06/06

Microsoft helps promote indigenous language. Bolivia president teams up with Microsoft to release a new Quechua translation for Microsoft Windows, joining 47 versions of Windows. Linguistics professors spent nearly three years reconciling 22 dialects of the language. The Miami Herald 08/26/06 (subscription required)

Latin America embraces Mandarin. More and more Latin American students are learning Mandarin Chinese as China boosts business with the resource-rich region. English prevails as a second language. Mandarin, on the other hand, is considered far harder to learn. Yet the Chinese language is making gains, as is the revolutionary idea of looking west across the Pacific for business opportunities. The Miami Herald 09/26/06 (subscription required)

Word is out: Chinese classes gain popularity. Trying to prepare students for a global economy, Miami-Dade and Broward schools are offering classes in Mandarin Chinese. According to the Florida Department of Education, 87 students statewide were enrolled in Chinese I and II last school year. There are at least three times that many this year. The Miami Herald 11/05/06 (subscription required)

“Language is inextricably bound up in virtually every aspect of human behavior. Language is so pervasive a phenomenon in our humanity that it cannot be separated from the larger whole.”
